On March 16, an unknown person gained access to 179 tokens belonging to them as a result of a phishing attack on Discord by participants of the Rare Bears NFT project. The damage amounted to 286 ETH (~$790,000).
Representatives of the project reported that the Discord community was compromised. They recommended not to follow the links, not to connect the wallet and block incoming messages until the situation is corrected.
After an audit by a specialist under the nickname pandez, the project returned to normal operation. Details of the hack will be published soon.
The release of 2400 bears created by digital artist Enox on Ethereum took place on March 12.
After hacking the Discord project, the hacker assumed the role of the official moderator of the community. He posted a phishing link, using which users could purchase 1000 rare NFT from the collection at a price of 0.1 ETH ($280).
According to PechShield experts, with the help of a malicious smart contract leading to the wallets of the victims, the hacker stole 179 NFT. Among the stolen tokens were not only Rare Bears, but also collectibles from the projects CloneX, Azuki, mfer, 3landers and Sandbox.
The hacker spent 213 ETH of the 286 ETH implemented through the Tornado Cash service, the remaining ones were withdrawn to three separate wallets.
Recall that in December, attackers hacked the Discord account of the administrator of the Monkey Kingdom NFT project. The damage amounted to 7056 SOL (~$1.3 million).
